Hello. This four-part series has been excellent. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I self-published my own rhyming picture book a little while ago, Amanda Alexander and the Very Friendly Panda. I may have approached it differently had I read this first.

Great compilation of tips, Debbie! Writing in rhyme can be learned, but it takes lots and lots of practice to get it right. So many wonderful resources you list - thanks for including the Rhyme Doctors!

Yes, yes, yes! Great tips, Debbie, on writing in rhyme! I'm a huge fan of Renée LaTulippe's mini Youtube videos and her Lyrical Language course. And I think that Rebecca Gardyn Levington should also be included in your list of peeps who write well in rhyme.

Just terrific, Debbie. Sharing with my picture book peeps. Rhyming is a challenge even for the best.

Writing a rhyming book seems like it could be challenging for translations if you're publishing internationally. Thank you for all this thoughtful post and resources!

This is a great read! I wrote a rhyming poem for my daughter’s naming ceremony 13 years ago and although I love it, and it makes me cry, but the rhyming and meter is all over the place!!

I am, however, working with a beautiful and talented writer and we’re self publishing a children’s picture book later this year, which is not only rhyming, but it’s a Christmas book too 🙈 I think no publisher would touch us with a barge pole 😂😂 Christmas and rhyming AND we chose each other as writer and illustrator, another big fat no in traditional publishing. But, we will have a glorious and gorgeous book that we made together if nothing else. I know my mum will buy one!

Good tips. Putting them into practice is the hard part! But it's such a delight for the reader when it's done well, not to mention immensely satisfying for the author who nails it.
